Summer Love

Although yellow roses may not have the storied past of her red, pink and white cousins these sun drenched beauties are definitely making up for lost time!  The selection of glowing, fragrant beauties is better than ever.

Two new yellows are available this season from Weeks Roses: the hybrid tea Summer Love and the floribunda Shockwave.  The large, luminous soft yellow flowers atop Summer Love will bring warmth to your garden and home.  With her subtle, long lasting blooms Summer Love blends well with other plants in the garden. Clip the blossoms and enjoy them in your home as well.  With a bushy yet contained habit this is a rose that tucks into smaller spaces in your garden while filling the area with the glow of the sun.  While Summer Love’s color may be unpretentious, Shockwave (as the name may suggest) is full of in-your-face, shocking yellow brilliance.  This neon yellow floribunda bursts with a pure yellow that performs well in all climates.  The contrasting green foliage and medium habit make a perfect backdrop.

Julia Child

Two of Weeks Roses All-America Rose Selections winners sport brilliant yellow hues.  The Julia Child rose has quickly become a favorite for her ability to flourish in a variety of climates and having incredible disease resistance.  With a scent as delicious as one of her signature dishes, Julia is at home when used in the landscape or standing by herself outside your kitchen window.

If you are looking to bring some long-lasting color into your home then consider the slow opening, spiraling buds atop St. Patrick.  This yellow-gold painted saint loves the heat while in the landscape and has phenomenal stamina once clipped for the home.  No luck of the Irish needed here; just plant St. Patrick and have your own pot-o-gold.

Lemon Drop

Even the miniatures get into the act with candy colored yellow of Lemon Drop.  This vigorous blooming, lemonade colored miniature tucks neatly into a small space or container.  Clusters of lemon blossoms contrast nicely with the bright green foliage.

Sky's the Limit

For a yellow that will reach for the sky, Sky’s the Limit is a climber the will fill a fence, trellis or arbor with loads of buttery yellow clusters even in the first season.  This unusually hardy yellow can help change the color of your landscape.  Move over reds and pinks, there’s a new color in town and on the trellis!

George Burns

For a spunkier splash of yellow George Burns brings blooms of yellow striped in red and pink along with a strong fruit and citrus scent to the garden.  This cheery, free-flowing fountain of color is sure to bring a smile to your face, just like the namesake entertainer.

Flutterbye
With two multi-colored climbers including the ever-changing tones on Flutterbye and the floriferous, re-blooming Jacob’s Robe you can add a touch of yellow to any upright space.  Flutterbye varies in habit, from a rounded shrub in harsher climates to a climber in more mild zones.  Multi-colored yellow, coral, tangerine and pink flowers resemble a flock of butterflies circling your garden.

Jacob' Robe

Disease resistance and vigorous growing habit make the yellow blushing to pinky red flowers cloaking Jacob’s Robe another favorite climber for gardeners seeking a wall of ever-changing color.  Painted color drips from this climber!

Julia Chlid & Ebb Tide

Do you need to plant a ‘yellow’ garden to enjoy these golden roses?  Absolutely not!  Yellows can be mixed with many plants in the garden as a complementary color.  Yellow roses naturally work well in this role due to rose’s long blooming season and continuously beautiful background foliage.  Consider a yellow rose variety along the back of a bed where you might not consider a more tradition color of rose but want the advantages of medium to large sized bush with all-season color.

Easy Going & Livin' Easy

Yellow roses can be mixed in easily with other rose colors as well.  For a striking display consider blending yellows with the rich hues of roses like Night Owl and Ebb Tide.  These deep purple varieties create a stunning contrast to the lighter yellow flowers.  You can even accomplish this in one plant with one of Weeks Roses Twofer trees.  Julia Child and Ebb Tide are combined atop a 36” stalk and create an amazing bouquet of color.  Easy-to-Love varieties Easy Going and Livin’ Easy are also paired together as a Twofer tree creating a more subtle crown of color to rise above your garden.

Yellow roses signify friendship, joy and warmth both in the garden and when presented as gifts.  So this season, if you would like to add some friendly and joyous sunlight to your garden remember that reds, pinks and whites are not the only colors on the palette of rose colors.
